Hello Drama 1 & 2 families!

Below you will find casting announcements and information for Spring Recital for your child’s class. Drama 2 students were informed this past week and the week before about Script & Monologue assignments for the performance. Unfortunately due to being in a car accident early morning Tuesday I was unable to be there to announce for Drama 1 this week. I am recovering well and will be back in classes next week. I heard great feedback though from my assistant Miss Carlissa on how class went Tuesday. We look forward to working through all of the pieces below with each of your children this week.

DRAMA 2

Drama 2 will be performing a piece called “It’s All In Your Head”

Here is a summary of the play:
In the prefrontal cortex, Emotion runs wild, Focus can’t focus, and Planning is losing her mind. Together, the feelings of Drew Peterson, a high school boy, must team up to accomplish their most difficult task: successfully asking a girl out on a date. Will Impulse be able to keep the team in line? Will Insight and Judgment remain balanced? Will Empathy finally participate in something? The stakes are high, but the team has no choice but to try.

This past week we adjusted certain lines to be appropriate for not only each age group represented in the class/ the recital but to better fit the individual performing certain parts. I also made slight adjustments again last night, to skim down the run time of the play since we do have limited time in the performance. Our goal is to have this be a 10 minute play by Spring recital. So please have your children reference the Drama 2 page to see if any of their lines were adjusted again. The edited script is located there.

Dear Tiny Thespian, Musical Theatre, & Drama parents,

Welcome to Spring Semester at Lochwood Academy!

We have had a great two weeks in classes and I’m so excited to be working with your children. In this email, you will find what to expect for your child’s class, performance dates, and class announcements that include solo, duo & trio announcements.

What To Expect:
With my classes, I strive to nurture your children in their passion & gifts within the performing arts, while also pushing them out of their comfort zones to grow into a more confident individual/performer.

It is expected of your child to practice weekly at home with any current material we are working on in class and encouraged for them to perform in front of their families before coming to class so they feel more confident when presenting or practicing pieces. They will be reminded by me that their efforts in preparing for their parts not only affect them but their whole class.

I am asking that you also remind them of this, so we can have your children putting their best foot forward. I have already told your children my least favorite thing to hear is “I was too busy this week to practice”. Ten minutes a night goes a long way when preparing and they will hear that from me regularly, especially if I hear anything along those lines.

This season is a little different as I will be giving birth to my 2nd child in early April. That being said we will be moving at a more accelerated speed to ensure all of your children know their pieces before my assistant Miss. Carlie takes over my classes during my maternity leave.

My current plan is to teach through all of March, attend their recital at the end of April, and be back in the classroom for showcase prep in May. If I can be back in the classroom the week before recital I will be, but as any parent knows, pregnancies & post-partum recoveries are unpredictable, so just know I will be in full contact with The Academy & Miss Carlie during my absence to ensure classes are prepped and ready to go.

Performance Dates:
*Spring Recital is April 29th at 1:00 PM
at Westview Baptist Church in Sanford, Florida
*12th Annual Showcase Concert is May 27th
Dress Rehearsal & Performance time will go out at a later date.

The concert is held at Westview Baptist Church in Sanford, Florida as well.
Uniform or Costume requirements will go out at a later date for these performances. If your child cannot perform in either of these performances please let me know by YOUR NEXT CLASS so I can make the proper adjustments for choreography & singing parts during class.

Class Announcements:
Drama parents:
Your student will be receiving their performance pieces the second week in February. They should for now be working on their monologues assigned for class at home.

Musical Theatre parents:
You will find below a list of each piece your child has for class and which performance they are for. Along with this, you will see the name of children who have parts as a soloist, duos, or trios. If you see your child has been assigned to a part please go ahead and inform them so they can begin preparing. For any student that didn’t receive a part, they will be singing the “Everyone” parts and be focused on choreography for each piece.

Choreography videos before March so they can practice at home.
You will find all practice materials such as tracks, lyrics sheets, and videos on the website lochwood.info. Hover your mouse over Group Classes and click on your child's class to be brought to this page. Please have your student look at the lyrics for their classes on the website before their next class so they can make the proper changes to the sheets they received last week and highlight their parts.
